Species listed as critically endangered are those at the brink of extinction. Often fewer than 1000 individuals remain. Their normal habitats have been altered by development, climate change, or invasive species so drastically that there is no longer a suitable place left for them.
In an effort to keep them from disappearing forever, heroic groups implement programs vital to save these species. These range from captive breeding and reintroduction programs to educational programs and landscape engineering. In many cases, the only reason a these species still have a home is due to management efforts.
This series of photographs is clearly not portraits of the species being protected. Instead, I photograph these human efforts to keep these animals from extinction.
