Staring at the Sky and the Screen

Dreaming of Other Celestial Bodies
Wondering What They're Looking at
Breaking Branches and Bending Grids
Measuring Half-lives on the Horizon

Breathe: Self and the Horizon, Video, 2014.

For several years I had a knot in my chest,
but then I learned how to breathe deeply,
using what some people might call meditation:
I would pull my diaphragm down, push out my belly,
and expand my chest, inhaling through my nose.
I imagined my body stretching out into the landscape.
My tailbone roots down into the ground,
And the crown of my head reaches toward the stars,
My fingers and toes stretch in every direction.
I tried to make my body fill as much space as possible.
Then, I would exhale very slowly, back to a point.
I repeated this simple action for hours on end,

Gradually the knot disappeared.
I feel so much better now.
